Apprenticeship as a Forwarding Agent (Forwarding and Logistics Services)

Training as a forwarding agent means learning to organise under time pressure. You take in orders, plan routes, talk to drivers, customers and partners, track shipments and handle billing at the end. All the threads come together in dispatch — and that's exactly where you sit during this apprenticeship.

Because the GV Trucknet group covers automotive, scheduled network transport, textile distribution and long-distance haulage, over three years you see several very different types of transport operation. That's an advantage: you get to know not just one business model, but several.

Apprenticeship duration: Three years.

What you will learn

  • Accepting, checking and dispatching transport orders
  • Planning routes and deploying fleet capacity
  • Coordinating customers, drivers and partner companies
  • Preparing freight documents and tracking shipments
  • Costing, billing and handling complaints
  • Legal basics of road haulage and the fundamentals of freight forwarding law

What you should bring

  • An intermediate school-leaving certificate or Abitur (German university entrance qualification)
  • A talent for organisation and the composure to run several tasks at once
  • Enjoyment of communication — on the phone and in writing
  • English skills, which are helpful for international routes

Questions about the Forwarding & Logistics apprenticeship

Do I sit in the office for the whole apprenticeship?

No. The training plan includes getting to know the operational areas — the warehouse, loading and the fleet. Without that picture, sensible dispatching isn't possible.

Do I need English?

It's helpful for international transport, though not essential for regional business.

Where in the network is this occupation taught?

In Kornwestheim near Stuttgart, in Friedewald, in Marsberg and in Mengkofen-Mühlhausen.
